Shopping can be a long process that many can do without. Our live-in carers can do this for your loved one, accompany them to the local shop or supermarket, or do it online. They can even accompany them on a walk around their local area, browsing in shops that they like, which can be an enjoyable activity when there is someone to share the experience with.
Attending appointments, especially medical, can be quite stressful, so our carers make sure that they get there on time, are the second pair of ears for any detail that they may not be able to remember or just simply to offer some company in the waiting room.
Support with social activities is so important to keep your loved one happy. Our carers can support them in taking them to meet up with friends, or to organised groups etc. while always thinking about their independence. We always strive to place someone with your loved one who has the same hobbies and interests. This can provide a real and beneficial connection.
We give dedicated support to suit every need. Sometimes it isn’t about complex needs but simply about having someone around to share their day and to make them feel comfortable and safe with lots of reassurance that they are loved and cared for. Simple companionship, often overlooked, can make the biggest difference to their wellbeing.
If family may not live locally or your loved one has limited mobility, we can support them with their hobbies and interests, running errands or just being there to read to, an ear to listen or have a good chat. Our carers are here to help and be that friendly face to offer support.
Nutritional Care
“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” ~ Hippocrates.
Our carers understand the necessary aspects of food handling, preparation, and implementation of different dietary requirements, and can assist with:
- Preparation of breakfast, lunch and dinner
- Fresh home cooking
- Preparation of drinks
- Managing food hygiene
- Assistance with dietary requirements
All aspects of your loved one's diet will be catered for. Their likes and dislikes, what they can physically eat, or any changes in appetite are all taken into consideration whilst ensuring that they are taking in the nutrient dense foods they require and keeping well hydrated throughout the day to help keep their energy levels up and ease intestinal discomfort. Meals can be a really important part of the day and form a basic routine and structure and our carers recognise this.
Your loved one may have a normal appetite but may feel embarrassed about eating. Our carers can ensure they have simple to eat foods, well cooked vegetables, soups etc. or they may have a different condition like diabetes, for example, or be recovering from a stroke and may need extra help because of difficulty with chewing, so our carers will offer softer foods, like pureed fruits or vegetables.
Whatever, dietary requirements they have, our carers will ensure they are followed. They will make meals for themselves as well as your loved one and if asked to accompany them at mealtimes, will do so always concentrating on helping them to eat if required. When it comes to maintaining healthy eating and drinking routines, private care from one of our live-in carers is the safest route to take.
Personal Care
Supporting your loved ones personal hygiene, appearance and well being with dignity and compassion, these are just some of the duties our carers can assist with:
- Assistance with getting out of bed
- Washing, bathing & showering
- Assistance getting dressed in the morning & undressed at night
- Managing incontinence and / or emptying & cleaning commode
- Changing of soiled linen
- Prompting to take medication
For your loved ones who suffer with dementia, this can mean they can become confused or upset by their loss of independence. Continuity of care from a live-in carer can be an essential component in helping them keep their dignity and as much independence as possible.
Each carer is expertly trained in a way that is discreet and respects our clients’ personal boundaries. They have years of experience and have learnt the importance of enabling dignity and independence at all times and will respect your loved one if there are some things they prefer to do themselves. Like all forms of our care, we support your loved one with their individual needs and personal routine.
